Baby Turtles Released

Baby Green Sea Turtle

Oceanworld Manly is excited to announce the release of two of our baby Green Sea Turtles.

Between April and June of 2009, three baby Green Sea Turtles were found washed up on beaches around Sydney. Lola, Notches and Seabiscuit were all brought to Oceanworld Manly for care and rehabilitation.

Lola arrived at Oceanworld on 24th April after washing up on Dee Why Beach. Her rescurer thought she was dead, however just as he was about to bury her she moved! She was tiny weighing only 79g, and was suffering from an eye infection as well as being underweight.

Notches arrived at Oceanworld on 2nd June, and was found at a beach near Gosford. She was much larger than Lola, weighing 142g, however was weak, underweight, and was injured on all four flippers.

Oceanworld Staff provided both turtles with antibiotics, a resting surface, warm fresh water, treatment and care. After only a few days, Lola and Notches were much more alert, and swimming and eating. Within the next few weeks, they began diving for food, and were eating well. Their swimming strength improved, and both turtles were strong enough to survive in the wild.

Lola and Notches were released from Lord Howe Island in October. The third baby turtle, Seabiscuit, had to have one flipper amputated, and will continue to be cared for at Oceanworld Manly, and hopefully be on display within the near future.
